The formula r=2√5L can be used to approximate the speed r, in miles per hour, of a car that has left skid marks of length L, in feet. How far will a car skid at 50 mph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[50=2\sqrt{5}L\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide out the 2 so divide the right side and left side by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now you have \[25=\sqrt{5}L\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now you square 25 to get rid of the square root so you end up like this \[625=5L\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now divide out the 5 by dividing both sides by 5 and you get your answer of 125 feet
