find the x intercept of the parabola y=-3x^2+11x+3 using the quadratic formula?

myininaya (myininaya):

\[0=-3x^2+11x+3\] \[x=\frac{-11 \pm \sqrt{11^2-4(-3)(3)}}{2(-3)}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right but the -6 my calculator won't give me an answer

myininaya (myininaya):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you solved that you'd end up with -11+sqroot157/-6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you plug it into a calculator it says it cannot give me answer because it thinks that its a negative under the sqroot

myininaya (myininaya):

yes thats right don't forget -6 goes underneath the -11 too and also you have the other solution with - and between the two terms in the numerator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah okay
