if a hybrid automobile gets 38.5mi/gal of gasoline an gasoline costs $3.759/gal, what would it cost to drive 858 km? how much would it cost if the car is an SUV that gets only 18.5mi/gal?

I guess you first have to figure out the mileage in km/gal. 1 mi ~ 1.6 km. Then you'll be able to figure out the number of gallons you'll need to make the journey. Alternatively, convert 858km to miles (again 1 mile ~ 1.6 km), which is probably easier in the long run.

for the hybrid, i got $131.56. for the SUV i got $ 136.87. anyone care to check me on that?
