Please factorize this trinomial & explain 12x^2+11x+2

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

12x^2+11x+2 12x^2+8x+3x+2 (12x^2+8x)+(3x+2) 4x(3x+2)+1(3x+2) (4x+1)(3x+2) So 12x^2+8x+3x+2 factors to (4x+1)(3x+2) In other words 12x^2+8x+3x+2=(4x+1)(3x+2)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The key is to break up 11x into 8x and 3x, notice how 8 and 3 add to 11 and multiply to 24 (which is 12*2). From there, we factor by grouping
