linear systems with 3 variables 3x-2y+z=6 2x+y-5z=5 5x-4y-z=14 solve for x, y and z

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you have a linear systems of 3 variables are you required to use a different strategy than if you would of had 2 variables?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think so. my prof said you choose any two pairs of equations and eliminate the same variable, then solve the resulting system of 2 linear equations

Well you do the same its just takes longer and you write more. Solve for x and replace two equations that now leave you with one equation that has the y and z. Do the same but with a different one and u have two equations with y and z and then u choose which one to solve for.

ok. thank you :)
