Fun Fact #35: For those of you that get annoyed by the Latin names i'll tell you why we use them. One major reason is that one common name can describe many species, if you say 'pig' you'd be describing at least 10 species and if you were to say possum you would be describing around 70 different species. Those of you that think the Latin names are boring then let me tell you of a creepy spider friend of mine. His name is Draculoides bramstokeri (Bram Stoker – the Author of Dracula).
Like any self respecting vampire he has two large fangs (well technically pedipalps, but they look scary enough) which they use to hold down prey. Once they've caught their victim they crunch it to pieces then suck out their juices. Oh yes, did I mention he lives in caves? Some creatures do indeed live up to their names...
