How to evaluate (-3)^-4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/81

How did you get that answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The way that I do this is by taking 1/-3^4. Any exponent that is negative can be made positive by reciprocating the base, in this case -3. Since the power is to the 4th the answer is positive.
