2a-1=17 2a=18 a=9
If the problem is: 2a-1=(a+17)/(a+1) Multiply both sides by (a+1) to eliminate the denominator (2a-1)(a+1)=a+17 2a^2+a-1=a+17 2a^2+a-1-a-17=0 2a^2-18=0 2a^2=18 a^2=9 a=+/-3
