define brief idea of X-ray & its uses ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

X-Rays are electromagnetic radiation in the frequency range \(3 \times 10^{16} \text{ to } 3 \times 10^{19} \text{ Hz }\), (the extremes are known as soft, and hard X-Rays respectively). It is typically created by firing an electron beam at tungsten, which will release radiation, about 1% of which will be X-Rays. They're often used in physics to examine crystal structures (X-Ray crystallography), and in medicine to examine bones (bones absorb them, but skin, and tissue do not).
