12x squared - 12x -31...when x = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just plug 5 into x to get 12(5^2)-12(5)-31

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i don't square 12 x 5.....I only square the 5???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you please tell me what the solution would be ...thanks so much!

If your original equation looked like this\[12x^2 -12x -31\], then no, you do not square the 12. If it looked like this \[(12x)^2-12x-31\], then you do square the 12. You should be able to use order of operations to find the answer from the answer i gave you above.
