What are openstudy's thoughts on students directly copying and pasting questions from assignments, only to then directly copy and paste the answers they receive? (it looks like some of that is occurring, at least in the biology group) No learning is taking place(well, other than how to cheat). Any thoughts on how to discourage using open study this way?
if youre clever about how you answer the questions; then they come to the answer for themselves.
true enough, but that's not what I'm seeing in many cases... as a teacher I see a lot of potential here, but I also am concerned that students will not take advantage of it and it will turn into wiki answers
its a valid concern i agree. And without any dedicated group to give answers, the system can be greatly abused.
I guess we will just have to see how it plays out in each study group... I will suggest it to my students and see what their feedback is.
yeah very true I see many people in maths group who post all the questions from their homework here and get the answers . I usually report all such people for abuse.
Like amistre64 says, it depends on how the questions are answered. I see a lot of people explaining how to solve a question, but yes there are many that just give the answer, which defeats the purpose.
Devil's advocate: if someone is simply looking to get their homework done, then they can go to any number of places on the web for that. The value of this site for those who truly want to learn far outweighs the damage that lazy slackers afflict upon themselves. Personally, I completely ignore the people obviously fishing for homework answers. Or I post the portion of the reading assignment which answers the question.
