this worksheet is really confusing and i would really appreciate some help. the title is "dividing fractions to 12ths" then many questions. 1 is 1/7 divided by 9/12 or 8/9 divided by 5/10.... how do i get the answer?i do not understand what "dividing fractions to twelphs" has to do with it. please help. i am in grade 9 and have a test tomorrow

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what happens when we multiply by 1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand what you mean?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i mean; that when we take a number and multiply it by 1; what happens?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wich number are we multiplying? :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

....lol, any number but 0

OpenStudy (amistre64):

wait, zero works too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand what u are saying where does the "dividing fractions to twelphs" come in to play if the question is 8/9 divided by 5/10?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what is a twelph? i dunno. But i still know how to divide by fractions ... which is what im trying to set up for

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im sorry what do u mean " what is a twelfth?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

You stated ... and try to follow along here. Alexrox128:"i dont understand what u are saying where does the "dividing fractions to twelphs" come in to play if the question is 8/9 divided by 5/10?"

OpenStudy (amistre64):

to which i said, in essense ... what is a twelph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do u mean? it says thatat the top ofthe page....dividing into twelfths......

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so in other words, you made a typo in your post; good, thats cleared up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dividing fractions to twelfths

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and you say that problem one is: 1/7 divided by 9/12 right?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

or is the first problem a 2 parter? since you use the word "or" and say 8/9 divided by 5/10 ... the question itself is hard ro parse

OpenStudy (amistre64):

ro... meant to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but the "/"s mean a fraction thing not divide. and the "or" was stating a different question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

imwondering how to solve either of those equations when the title is "dividing fractions to twelfths" where do twelfths come in?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

ok .... the dividing fractions i can do; the title issue tho? i got no clue

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and a fraction bar IS a divide bar. Fractions are divisions of a whole

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i know but i just meant to say that question was showing fractions.... not 1 divided by 7 divided by 9 divided by 12.....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you want the trick method or the math method for dividing a fraction by a fraction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know how to divide fractions. i learned that like 3 years ago in grade 7 buti dont understand what twelfths have to do with anything

OpenStudy (amistre64):

:) good, the title thing tho, youll have to speak to those people who actually made the thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i dont understand wherethat comes in i really need help ihave a test tomorrow

OpenStudy (anonymous):

........

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

when you divide two fractions you need multiply forst fraction with , or by the second fraction inversed like this 3/2 divided by 5/3 equal 3/2 multiply by 3/5 what is 5/3 inversed

jhonyy9 (jhonyy9):

so what is your problem dividing fraction to 12ths this is like 11/5 divide to 7/12 what will be equal 11/5 multiply by 12/7
