On a 4th grade homework assignment the question is: A dance studio offers lessons to students. It costs $25 to rent the studio plus $1 per student. Write an equation for this situation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

25+x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about the $1.00 per student?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is the x, since 1 is understood to be infront of it you do not need to write it. If it was any other number then you would. E.g.$2 per student then "25+2x"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. one more question: How do I know how much it will cost if 6,8, and 10 students take the lesson?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You plug each of those values in for x and solve. 25+(6)=31. Just to show you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are awesome. 1 more question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha thank you. Ok ask away.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. Every day Pedro wears a different baseball cap to school. He has red hats, black hats and blue hats. How many weeks will it take for him to wear all of his hats? Can you show me how to figure this out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In order to set up this equation you need to figure out what you x is. And that is how many weeks. So we know he has at least 3 plus the five days a week. So your equation should be: 3x+5 We put the x with the hats because we are not sure how many he has. hmmm...i feel like there is something missing or I messed up somewher.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know. for a 4th grade math homework....this is confusing!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it just 3 weeks?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha i know. lol. The reason I am confused is because we only know he has atleast 3 hats but we do not know how many of each color he has. That is what is causing my confusion. Maybe their is a mistake from when you copied it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope. That is what the question asks. It says Identify any missing or extra information. Then solve if possible in the directions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok well I do not believe this is possible to solve. We are missing how many hats he has, with that we could solve. we could even solve it if we knew how many weeks it takes him.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. well I feel better that I couldn't get this if a professional thinks it's a stupid question. Thank you for all your help!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha I wish I was a professional. You are welcome!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bye.

See ya later.
