How do you find the girth of something?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

gotta use calculus

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you sure? We're trying to find it in my Algebra 2 class.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[\int_{0}^{2pi}(cheese.burger*fries)df\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Ok well I'm trying to find the girth of a whale. How would I do that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (jamesj):

A very long tape measure

OpenStudy (amistre64):

find a bunch of tailors

OpenStudy (amistre64):

math provides models; when faced with a real life challenge, use real life applications

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm in a class. I don't have time to measure whales with a tape measure. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol you must have some kinda relation or equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok well I know the length and weight of the whale.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and ...?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

length times weight / number of tail feather =girth ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you cant just make up math to fit a situation; either the data has already been retrieved and worked into a relation that can be formulated; or you have to do the grunt work

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if someone has determined the relation of length to weight, then it might be on the google

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i wonder how many balls had to be rolled down an inclined plane to come up with a=v/t^2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

or some such
