OpenStudy (pottersheep):

What do you do if you cannot factor an equation?

OpenStudy (pottersheep):

Does that mean you answer will be decimals?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

Being able to factor an equation is actually very unusual as far as for a random equation. An expression which cannot be factored could have a normal answer, a decimal answer (via the quadratic equation for example), or it could have infinite answers, or even no solution at all. Basically, all it means is that you'll have to do some different tricks to find out about the equation.
