OpenStudy (pottersheep):

What do you know when you cannot factor a quadratic equation?

OpenStudy (pottersheep):

Does it mean that your answers will be decimals?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

Not necessarily. you could have multiple answers, depending on the order of the expression (the highest power of x that appears). Some of those answers could be whole numbers and some could be decimals. Some equations also have infinite solutions, or no solution at all. The point is, you basically don't know anything about an equation just because you can't factor it.
