So we have this equation:
We have x on both sides and this is a problem.
So we start out by subtracting 1/2x from both sides.
1/2x + 1 - 1/2x = -x + 8 - 1/2x
This gives us:
1 = -x + 8 - 1/2x
1 = -2/2x + 8 - 1/2x
1 = -3/2x + 8
Subtract 8 from both sides.
1 - 8 = -3/2x + 8 - 8
-7 = -3/2x
Multiply both sides by 2
-7 * 2 = -3/2x * 2
-14 = -3x
Divide both sides by -3
-14/-3 = -3x/-3
14/3 = x
