how is volume measured ? help me please

OpenStudy (zrsmith):

Volume is how much space something takes up, and for liquid you can use a simple measuring device, like a measuring cup. A solid can be measured by it length * width * height. Ultimately, volume is a quantity of 3 dimensional space.

for what? I mean, what are you trying to measure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

volume is measured by many techniques.. basically volume is defined as the amount of space occupied by substance/thing .. there are three types of matter solids,liquids,gases.. solids volume can be measured using archimedes principle...and there are many ways for measuring volume of liquids and gases

How to measure volume----- If you want the volume of a rock that has an irregular shape, then use water displacement. I am looking for a file to add----I have a simple exp. on my science website- http://wp.me/pSQZl-5Mf Basically, you would place the rock in a container--a graduated container--and determine how much water the rock displaced. ie...how high the water rose in the container. As previously stated--if the object has flat sides--use a ruler and the volume equation: V= length x width x height If the object is round etc..... find volume equations for different shapes.

if you have the density and the mass, you can divide the mass by the density to get the volume as well as all of the above :)
