MATH HELP?????
dont worry about the wecam tab thing just write the answers
That wouldn't help you very much. What do you not understand?
Estamteing?
Estimating means making a "qualified guess". It doesn't have to be precise, but it need to be in the right direction, "near" the right answer. If I throw a stone at 1.05 yards, and I throw it three times farther, you can estimate that I threw it at 3 yards (see, it's not really precise).
In your first assignment you have to round to nearest half dollar, that means to round to 0,50 dollars or whole dollars. Let's take the first one: $4.85 + $ 1.47 = First we round to nearest half dollar: $ 5 + $ 1.50 Then we calculate the answer: $5 + $1.50 = $6.50
Oh so $6.79 and 3.95 would be $7.00+$4.00?
exactly! You look at the decimals to round up or down. If the decimals are between 0.25 and 0.75 you rount to half dollar: 0.5, else you'll round to whole dollars.
round* sorry :P
what happend if its -?
Same thing. Let's take 1.4: $ 25.43 - $21.20. Rounding gives: $25.50 - $21 = $4.50

Stay here incase i need help
Lol, I will :)
Do you understand front-end estimation? Or any of the other assignments?
would number 2 be $3.00
yes!
#3. $20.00
No, almost. #3 is 14.19 + 5.59 = Rounded: 14 + 5.50 (remember, between 0.25 and 0.75 gives 0.50) So the answer is $ 19.50
what about front end estimation?
front end estimation means you look only at the "front" of a number, and round to the first digit. #5. 4.76 + 6.15 becomes 5 + 6, because 4.7 rounded is 5 and 6.1 rounded is 6. So it doesn't matter what the other decimals are, only look at the first one
11.00?
what about #6?
?
ehm
wat about #6?
Estimate the sum by rounding to whole numbers 8.9 + 9.01 + 9.3 + 8.7 + 9.1 Round to: 9 + 9 + 9 + 9 + 9 = 5*9 = 45
the problem is 1.406 + 3.512
?
1.409 + 3.512 Front end estimation, so round 1.4 to .... and round 3.5 to ...., then add them together
4.90?
or 4.9
No, 1.4 rounds to 1 and 3.5 rounds to 4, so the answer is 5. Note that you don't have to round to half dollars anymore (that only applies to questions 1-4), so now you do regular rounding, which means if the next digit is 5 or higher, you raise the first digit by 1, if it's lower than 5, the first digit stays the same.
ohh thanks :) lol
so 2.479+6.518 is 2.4 and 6.5 witch 6.5 rounds off to 6 and 2.4 rounds off to 1? so the answer is 3
?
Almost, you go the concept right. 2.4 rounds to 2 (4 is lower than 5, so the 2 stays the same). and 6.5 rounds off to 7 (5 equal to 5 or higher, so the 6 gets raised by 1). 2.4 + 6.5, rounds to 2 + 7 = 9
okay :) so number 8 3.17+2.72 is 3.1 witch rounds off to 3 and 2.7 rounds off to 3 so 3+1 =4?
?
Yes you are right, but you are making a mistake in your addition. you say 3.1 rounds to 3 and 2.7 rounds to 3, so then you have 3+3 and not 3+1
oh yea right thanks
is it 6.0 or just 6??
and number 9 11?
just 6. #9 = 10 + 2 = 12 #11 = 8.9 + 9.01 + 9.3 + 8.7 + 9.1 = 9 + 9 + 9 + 9 + 9 = 45
sorry wait number 9 is 9.87+2.16 so its 9.8 that rounds off to 10 and 2.1 rounds off to 1 so its 10+1=11?
??
2.1 rounds to 2 (because the decimal 1 is lower than 5, the 2 stays the same). number 9 is: 10 + 2 = 12
5.89+7.21 5.8 rounds off to 6 and 7.2 rounds off to 6 so its 6+6=12?
No you are misunderstanding one thing. Rounding is like this. If you need to round a digit, you look at the next digit. Then there are two cases: 1) if the next digit is 5 or higher (so 5 till 9), then you raise the first digit by 1. 2) if the next digit is lower than 5 (so 0 till 4), then you keep your first digit (you don't add or substract anything) 1.3 rounds to 1 (the 1 stays) 1.6 rounds to 2 (raise 1 by 1) 2.4 rounds to 2 (the 2 stays) 2.7 rounds to 3 (raise 2 by 1) Do you understand this ?
no?
15.1 rounds to?
14?
why do you think it's 14?
because 15.1 rounds of to 14?
15.1 rounds to 15, the 15 stays, because the decimal is between 0 an 4. 16.2 rounds to 16, the 16 stays, because the decimal is between 0 and 4. 4.3 rounds to 4, the 4 stays.... 3.4 rounds to 3, the 3 stays... Do you understand now?
yes so the answer is 32
what answer is 32?
I dont understand it im been stuck on this for a while now
????
Hey are you still there? You are making one mistake, when you round up, you do it good (adding 1, like 6.5 becomes 7). But when you rond down, you substract your number by one (you do: 6.4 becomes 5) and that is not correct, when rounding down, you don't have to substract by 1, you just remove the decimals, like 6.3 becomes 6, and 5.2 becomes 5.
yea i got it all done :)
good job!
