The value of an uncirculated" Mint State-65' 1950 Jefferson nickel minted in Denver is 5/3 the value a 1945 nickel minted in Philadelphia in similar condition. Together the total value of the two coins is $64. What is the value of each coin?

1950 coin is $40 and the 1945 coin is $24.
You take the 1950 coin and set it as 5/3x and then the 1945 coin set as x. Let each add up to equal 64. Add like terms, divide by 2and 2/3. This will give you x or the 1945 coin. Then just subract from 64 and determine the 1950 coin.
