Part 1: To eliminate the y-variable, multiply the top equation by 2 and the bottom equation by 3. This will make the coefficient for y opposites. Now, form a linear combination of the two altered equations containing only the variable x. Now that the equation has a single variable you can solve as any other. Once you have a solution for x, you can back-substitute that x-value into any equation that has a y-variable. Now solve that equation for y. (Part 2 on next post)
