OpenStudy (trancenova):

Fun Fact #42: The most common mushroom that people usually eat is Agaricus bisporus otherwise known as the button mushrooms (among its many many names) but did you know it has a few European counterparts that look similar but are quite poisonous? Well they're not just from Europe but these other fungi include 'destroying angel', Amanita species, which are known to cause the destruction of your liver and kidney tissues. If that isn't enough they're all white, so they're easily mistaken for your friendly button 'shroom.

OpenStudy (trancenova):

Entoloma sinuatum, also white, is responsible for 10% of all mushroom poisonings in Europe. When poisoned, along with becoming quite sick (you know diarrhoea and all that nasty stuff) people are also known to exhibit psychiatric symptoms, like mood disturbance and delirium. I hope I haven't scared you too much as your common shopping centre mushroom is quite safe (and tasty I might add!) and has been cultivated for around 300 years. It also may play a part in immune system strengthening among other healthy attributes.

Wow. I love mushrooms too.
