how is naming a line segment different from naming a line?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

a line can be described by an equation: i.e. y=3x+5 a segment has to have bounds; that is x only goes from a to b. this gives only part of the line described by the original equation (the one without constraints on x)

OpenStudy (turingtest):

in other words, for a whole line, x can vary from -infinity to +infinity, but it must have limits for a segment.
