Will and Kara live 10 km apart. They start biking towards each other. Will travels at and average speed of 3 m/s (meters per second) and Kara at a speed of 5 m/s. Where will they meet?

please show steps

3.75km from Will and 6.25km from Kara

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's 10,000=5x+3x where x is the amount of time they need to meet. Solve for x you get 1250 seconds and then multiply it by their rate to see how far they traveled.

how did you get that? I'm confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay in order to meet they have to travel a total of 10km which is 10,000 in the equation. To find how far each of them travel, you do rate * time = distance which is their rate (3 for Will and 5 for Kara) multiplied by x, the time.
