How do you do 3/8 + 1/4 ?

OpenStudy (stormfire1):

Get a common denominator for both and then add the numerators. This one is pretty simple: change 1/4 to 2/8 and then just add 3/8 to get 5/8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find the lcm of 8 and 4 , ie equal to 8, and then simplify ((*3/8)*8 + (1/4)*8)/ 8 (3+2)/8 = 5/8
