Please help!! A company's yearly profits from 1996 to 2006 can be modeled by the function y=x^2-10x+125 where y is the profit (in thousands of dollars) and x is the number of years since 1996. a. In what year did the company experience its lowest yearly profit? b. What was the lowest yearly profit?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

skip the verbiage and find the vertex using \[x=-\frac{b}{2a}=-\frac{-10}{2\times 1}=5\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so year 5 and then compute with x = 5 to answer the second question

100,000?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Year 5 would represent 2001 and when you plug 5 back in, the profit is 5^2-10(5)+125=100 which represents $100,000
