Explain how unwrapping a present is used as an analogy for solving an equation. How do you "unwrap" with an equation?

you just undo whatever the equation shows you. for example, with subtraction you do addition to undo the subtraction in other words, you are trying to throw away the useless stuff (the giftbox and the ribbons and all the other beautiful stuff) and get to the goodies (the x, though it is hardly a present, isn't it :))
