A small business purchases a piece of equipment for $875. After 5 years the equipment will be outdated, having no value. Write a linear equation giving the value y of the equipment in terms of the time x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need the equation for a line, you have two points (0,875), and (5,0), just plug them into the equation for a line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can just use slope intercept form, since you have the y intercept already. Just figure out the slope (change in y / change in x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would I use the formula y - y1 = m(x - x1) ? I got -175 for m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-175 is correct for m It's fine to use that equation, yes. You already have your y intercept though, so you can save yourself the trouble of solving for y (even though it's easy) by using slope intercept of y=(-175)x+875

thank you for your help!

No problem.
