26/6= 5-a 13/3= 5-a -(13/3)+5 = a
what does (a) equal
a = 5 - (13/3) That's a fraction portion of a long decimal. To put it more properly: a = 1- (1/3) or 0.666666666666
I wud distribute the 6 so that you get 30 - 6a on the right, then get "a" by itself on the right and solve - you're gonna get a fractional answer.
