Karen is painting her bedroom. She has orange, green, blue, and purple paint. She plans to use one color as a base coat and stencil a design with another color. How many different ways can she do this? is it 16?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

(4)(3)=12 want an explaination?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes please

OpenStudy (turingtest):

for the first color she can choose from the four, so there's your four. the question says that she wants to use a DIFFERENT color for the stencil, so now she only has three to choose from. if the problem had not said she would use a different color for the stencil you would have been right. that help?
