pretty sure you are looking for "crucial points". either way. this is a polynomial, this means find EVERY point where there is an x-intercept and the y intercept. Then for every time it crosses the x-axis, find whether y is negative between the last time it crossed (if you are at the furthest right then do (-infinity, [left most x intercept]) and the next x intercept and find the sign of y between these.
