how do i approach this essay question, Should research on expensive medical treatments be allowed when only a few people can afford?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think ethics and legality should be your primary focuses. Think of certain ethnic groups that are more prone to certain illnesses, but can't afford expensive medicine. Should there be no medical research done to aid them because it isn't profitable? Same with medical treatments, think of insurance companies and their corrupt and unethical policies. If you are of a category of people that is likely to develop an illness, you won't be insured, thus you won't be able to receive treatment. Kind of defies the purpose, doesn't it? Do research to correlate these two, there's tons of statistical data.

Mnad1 has the right idea. The question is why are these treatments so expensive? If the cost of the treatments can be justified, that means the treatments are highly beneficial. However, this ties into the current healthcare policy issue of making healthcare both affordable and accessible to all Americans-despite socioeconomic status. It's an awesome topic, but it has so many points to it. Just focus on one part and run with it.
