Find two positive real numbers whose product is a maximum. The sum is A.

please help

OpenStudy (radar):

I would like to help, but I honestly don't understand the problem, what subject in mathematics are you studying.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x is one number A-x is the other Look at the product of these two numbers- and find what happens at the min/max points. That will tell you something about the number x.

OpenStudy (radar):

The product is then Ax-x^2, then dp/dx =A-2x set this to 0 getting A-2x=0, 2x=A, x=A/2

OpenStudy (radar):

Now what??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well if the question was provided fully, I don't see anything else other than saying that the two numbers are: A/2 and A/2

OpenStudy (radar):

Perplexing isn't it??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, that about wraps it up I guess :)

OpenStudy (radar):

lol
