Which force has a larger magnitude, the pull by a cable on an elevator it is lifting or the push by a man on a table to change its place?

OpenStudy (stormfire1):

The cable from the elevator...since it's supporting 100% of the mass.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you :) i just want to ask how do you figure out these stuff? please!

OpenStudy (stormfire1):

Physics class...and life! Think about it: would it be easier for you to push a 200lb person across the floor or to lift them with a rope? I'd also assume that the elevator's mass is *much* greater than a table...which will require more force.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh you think of it in this way...COOL! thankssss :D

OpenStudy (stormfire1):

For simple problems you can think of it logically...but eventually you will need to start using the formulas :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha, yeah! which is hard :P can you help me with few more please? :)

OpenStudy (stormfire1):

ok, but I have to run in about 5 minutes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok!!
