Three horses, call them A, B, and C, are going to race against each other. The probability that A will win is 1/3 and the probability that B will win is 1/2. What is the probability that C will win? (Assume that there are no ties.)

make the denominator equal on both fractions, for example 6. Then you have a 2/6 chance that A will win and a 3/6 chance that B will win. then you just add them up subtract from 6/6 and find that C has a 1/6 chance of winning.
