A call to Tucson from a pay phone in Chicago cost 85 cents for the first mintue and 27 cents for each additional minute or portion of a mintue. If a student has 7.00$ in change, how long can he talk for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7.00 - .85 = $6.15 for the first minute, then... 6.15 / .27 = 22.78 the answer is 23 minutes and 18 seconds.

I understand the 22.78 part. I did get that, but where does the 23 come from? And 24?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I changed my answer. I rounded up the number, but then I realized there is only 60 seconds per minute, so I fixed my answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So then the answer is 22.78? Doesnt that have to be rounded to 60 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, but there is only 60 seconds, so you have to do like this: 22 minutes + 78-60(1 min) = 18 seconds ---> 23 minutes and 18 seconds.

Ture , lol thankyou so much :)
