Approximate the solutions of 0.51x2 − 0.81x − 4.2 = 0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

approximate using what method?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it did not say

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have a graphing calculator. that is the easiest way to do this problem. The solutions will be wherever the graph crosses the x-axis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't T^T

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use the quadratic formula: x = (0.81 +- sqrt(0.81^2 + 4*4.2*0.51))/1.02 put that in your calculator and it should spit out an approximate solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

shouldn't that start with a negative .81?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope, it's [-b +- sqrt(b^2 - 4ac) ] / 2a
