Relate the concept of free energy to metabolism?

OpenStudy (kira_yamato):

because metabolism is based on energy the more energy you have the higher your metabolism the lower energy you have the lower metabolism and that is y we have a lot of obese people in this world today. hope this could help you More references: - http://www.cbu.edu/~seisen/EnergyAndMetabolism.htm - http://www.chemistry24.com/biochemistry/introduction-to-metabolism-and-bioenergetics.html - http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Relate_the_concept_of_free_energy_to_metabolism

OpenStudy (trancenova):

Hmm yes, metabolism is "a set of chemical reactions" which basically provides you with energy (via the breakdown of sugars/carbs etc). The faster your body is able to break these down, the faster your metabolism and the more energy you will have. So if free energy is "Free energy is energy that is available to do cellular work. Free energy (G) is the amount of energy available to do work under the conditions of a biochemical reaction.." (From http://www.cbu.edu/~seisen/EnergyAndMetabolism.htm ). The more your body metabolises the more free energy available for chemical reactions in your body.
