Three resistances R1, R2, R3 connected in parallel in an electrical circuit produce a resistance R that is given by the formula 1/R = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3. Find dR/dR1. (Note: d is partial derivative)

lol, i've got this same question for my comp sci math quiz tomorrow. I think it means find the derivitive of the equation with respect to R1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my question is what do i do with R? i guess R would be a function of R1,R2,and R3? R(R1,R2,R3)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so R = 1/(R2R3)+(R1R3)+(R1R2)? (finding common denominator then some algebra) then find derivative with respect to R1 where R2 and R3 are constants and R is the function?

This is basically BS of the highest caliber. If this is actually how you do it then I'll be really surprised
