Why are we not knee deep inviruses?

OpenStudy (agreene):

There are lots of viruses around. Although we do tend to have more bacteria and protozoa. There are lots and lots of viruses in you right now...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Viruses are not considered as strict living organisms, they need a host organism in order to survive. By biological definition, a living organism possess some of the following characteristics: metabolism, growth, development, response to stimuli and homeostasis. Viruses in general require living organisms in order to reproduce, in terms of numbers, you can think that living organisms are carriers of viral matter itself, so in a matter of speaking, there is just as much as viruses as there are bacteria.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually we are knee deep in viruses there are as many viruses on you that cells

OpenStudy (trancenova):

Well we are not LITERALLY knee deep in viruses (or bacteria) because they are really really small, they around there in their millions of millions but they're just so small you don't notice.
