What is the first step to simplify and solve this equation? -5=2+x

OpenStudy (diyadiya):

x=-5-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

shift the variables to one side n the numbers to the other like wat diya has done:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5-2=x x=-5-2 x=-7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do i add 2 to both sides or add 5 to both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no you don't have to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would suggest 5, then bring x to one side:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u understand it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or u can always do this way: -5 = 2 + x --> - 5 - 2 = 2 + x - 2 --> -7 = x --> x = -7 --> :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i just forgot at the moment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha okies:P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i do have a problem here that im a lil confused on. it says to solve the following equation..... 3x+2x=12+8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x+2x=12+8 --> 5x=20 --> 5x/5=20/5 --> x=4 -->ans:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh i got x=9 idk how i managed to get that lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol its ok:) probably was a careless mistake or sth:P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

always double check. plug the answe into the original equastion. make it a habit. it will help you know if you got a problem right
