OpenStudy (anonymous):

(5v^5+10v-4)-(9v^5-8v^2+17)

OpenStudy (agreene):

start by distributing the 1 and -1 to break the parenthetical parts. 5v^5+10v-4-9v^5+8v^2+17 now you just have to combine like terms. -4v^5+8v^2+10v+13 it's technically not fully simplified by leading with a negative (even though the power is leading) so, \[8v^2-4v^5+10v+13\]

OpenStudy (agreene):

that constant should be -21. I forgot to change the sign when i distributed the -1 across. 8v^2-4v^5+10v-21
