The number 1 234 000 in scientific notation is equal to 1.234 x 10^5. True Or False?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it is 1,234,000? if so, it would be 1.234x10^6 i can elaborate more indepth if you want.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes please that would help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, your initial number is 1,234,000. correct, okay from there when in scientific notation you start the decimal in between the first and second number, then you move it to the right to figure out how many (powers) are needed to make it into scientific notation. if it was 1.234X10^5 it would only be 123,400. move the decimal for a positive right how ever many powers it is. if it was negative like 1.234x10^-6 you would move the decimal to the left.

alright, i got it thanks!
