for an essay about throwing something away and regretting it?

You could talk about the intrinsic value of things in general, what regret really is and why people feel regret, a personal story about regretting throwing precious objects away.

There are even plenty song lyrics which you could quote on the subject!
"You never know what you got until its gone."

An introduction is for telling your readers what they will be reading. For example...

Out with the old, and in with the new. It sounds like a good idea, so you throw away a few items that you don't need anymore. Then, the guilt hits you. You begin to regrett throwing something away. There are many reasons someone may have second-thoughts. First, maybe the item wasn't on it's last leg, after all. Coud it have been fixed? Second, maybe the item had sentimental value that you didn't feel until it was gone. A gift from a family member, maybe. Lastly, maybe the item could have been donated to charity. A needy family could have a use for it.

Now, in the body of your paper, talk about the three reasons listed. Give each reason it's own paragraph.

There are a dozen reasons to regret throwing something away. Use what you think is best. This was just an -off-the-top-of-my-head thing.

The introduction is usually the last thing I write, just before my conclusion, because I must know what I will be introducing before I introduce it.

Sometimes, though, I know what I will be saying and I just begin by catching my reader's interest.

I am quite unacademic, so I would write something like:

"Any man can understand what it is like to have an ugly girlfriend, brake up with her even if she is a good friend and a nice woman, and then, two months later, when alone in your room, remember how good she was at giving blowjobs and hit yourself very hard in the head."

That will get people reading.
