How do I build a slide rule?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

6 1/4 i think is a good measurement

OpenStudy (amistre64):

depends on what you are wanting to do with one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why would I ever need one? I live in the age of microcontrollers, iPhones, and microprocessors.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

theres a book upstairs that has making a slide rule in it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

book upstairs? what does that expression mean?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you take a ruler and mark out on a paper 4 marks at specific points; then move the first mark to the second and retrace

OpenStudy (amistre64):

it means that above me on the second floor of the library there is a book in the shelves that has the instruction on making your own simple slide rule

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll ask the ME folks at my local uni. They might let me borrow some resources.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

this is a 10 inch instruction but has the same basic set up http://pragprog.com/magazines/2010-01/get-a-life
