Easy random question... Can I download and install a program on an external hard drive? Like be able to run it on the external drive? (Sorry I'm not very comp savvy!)

Yes you can do it. But some programs would work only on pc, where you are installing the program itself.

Yes that will work, but you have to take care that - external drive should always have that same Volume name ( example - E:\ ), as when you have installed the program.
