multiply the polynomials (t-4) (2t^2-t+6)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how?

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

A.Mistre will show you how! ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

distributing

OpenStudy (amistre64):

distributing works fine; but in my old age i tend to get confused going side to side like that

OpenStudy (amistre64):

id rather just multiply it outright like normal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that would work easier

OpenStudy (amistre64):

stack them and do what comes natural 2t^2 -t +6 t -4 -------------- now what would your gut say to do in this case?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

2t^2 -t +6 t -4 -------------- -8t^2 +t -24 does that look familiar any?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

forgot a 4 tho lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes to combine like terms

OpenStudy (amistre64):

2t^2 -t +6 t -4 -------------- -8t^2 +4t -24 thats better ;)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

its not adding, its multiplying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so dont combine like terms

OpenStudy (amistre64):

not yet :) tell me, how would you multiply something like 27 times 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dude i wish i knew thats why im here lol

OpenStudy (amistre64):

.... well, i was hoping not to have to reinvent the wheel in the process.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if you dont know how to multiply 2 numbers togheter; then your not going to know how to multiply the stuff that are just numbers in disguise together either

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lets try this: 2t^2 -t +6 t -4 -------------- n = 6*-4 would you now what 6 times -4 is at least?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

- 24

OpenStudy (amistre64):

-24 is right :) now the next thing is to move over to the next spot ... 2t^2 -t +6 -4 -------------- ^ -24 ^ n = -t times -4 ; what would you say this could be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk is it the answer cause i kinda need to do this fast cause i fell asleep when i got home and im now starting this

OpenStudy (amistre64):

.... im trying to help you study so you can have some idea as to how to do these.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the "fastness" is up to you

OpenStudy (amistre64):

when we come across numbers multiplied to letter .... all we do is stick them together into one term, but we have the issue of having 2 negatives as well; whenever we have the same sign, we go positive. -4 times -t = +4t

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok ty can u write the answer i dont realy wan to do this on my own

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the answer tends to come at the end after the work itself is done.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok can u do it and write it for me so i can give you a medal plz i really need this i have class in like 3 hours and i have likee 20 more to do

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i have 5413 medals, and none of them do me any good. but if all you need is an answer, then im sure somebody will tend to come along and just lay one at your feet if need be. so good luck with it :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow ty for everything then
