Can some one explain what is simplifying and how to?
simplifying what?
4/2 simplifies to 2/1 9/3 simplifies to 3/1 its to make a fraction into its lowest form.
like i dont understand when it says simplify
divide to the lowest term possible, like simplify 2/4, or 5/10. the answer would be 2/4=1/2( simplest term) 5/10=1/2( simplest term)
\[\frac{2}{10}\] simplifies to \[\frac{1}{5}\] the equation 2(x+1)=4 simplifies to x=1 the term \[(x^{a})^{b}\] simplifies to \[x^{ab}\] it depends on what you want to simplify.
2 goes into its self 1 time and goes into 4 2 times so 2/4 =1/2
thanks, math is so understanding for me
Find the largest number that divides both the numerator (top part) and denominator (bottom part). This is called the greatest common divisor (gcd) or greatest common factor (gcf). Then divide both numbers by that gcf. \[\frac{12}{20} = \frac{3\times4}{5\times4}\] Since both numbers have 4 as a factor you can divide each number by 4 to yield 3/5. If you want to know why that works:\[\frac{12}{20} = \frac{3\times4}{5\times4}=\frac{3}{4}\times \frac{4}{4} = \frac{3}{4}\times 1 = \frac{3}{4}\]
A few hints for finding gcfs: 1. The gcf is always equal to or less than each number. 2. The gcf is always equal to or less than the difference between the numbers. 3. The gcf will also divide the difference between the numbers. Using the example above (gcf of 12 and 20 is 4): 1. 4<=12 and 4<=20 2. 20-12=8 and 4<=8 3. 8 = 2*4, so 4 divides 8 Another example: 17/20 Using rule 2 the gcf must be 1, 2, or 3. 3 doesn't divide either number. 2 divides 20, but not 17. Therefore the gcf is 1, and the fraction is in simplest terms. 18/20 Using rule 2 the gcf must be 1 or 2. 2 divides 18 and 20. Therefore the gcf is 2. The simplified fraction is 9/10 (because 18/2 = 9 and 20/2 = 10).
