well all you can do is rationalise the denominator - in this case in order to keep the same value you multiply top and bottom by sqrt5: so sqrt2 * sqrt5 / sqrt5 * sqrt 5 = sqrt10 / 5 i guess it looks 'tidier' with a rational denominator
