Give the slope of the line through the points (0,3) and (5,0)

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

Use the formula.

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

\[slope = \frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}\]

OpenStudy (chaise):

Do you need help applying this formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@CHAISE: grr, yes >__<

OpenStudy (chaise):

Okay - The slope formula is what Saifoo said it was. When I look at the problems I point the points directly on top of eachother, take them away and then divide y by x. Your points are (in (x,y) format: (0,3) (5,0) If we take the y value from the y value directly below it we get (3-0) 3. If we take away the x value with the x value directly below it we get (0-5) -5. Now we must divide the y value by the x value (as this is rise / run which is the definition of a slope) 3/-5 The slope is -3/5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mhmm, i see...well, kind of. lol >_< grr thanks :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@chasie-so id divide 3/5 then get my answer ?

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

you missed the negative sign.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok , but other then that i divide to get the last answer ..? rite?

OpenStudy (chaise):

Correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got it ^____^ THANK U CHAISE & SAIFOO!

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

uw.

OpenStudy (chaise):

If you would like a further, in-depth explanation of a slope I would be happy to explain it to you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@chaise- thank you very much :) i got other problems ill post up not sure if it's having to do with slope, but i very much understood everything on how you explained it to me for this problem.^__^ ALOHA

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

lol, try to learn that method, so that u can solve them later as well

OpenStudy (chaise):

They really arn't that hard - and I find them enjoyable cause they're so logical. I love linear equations and I always try to thoroughly explain them when people have troubles with them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LOL, ill try as much as i can. brr, it's just i learn it, then forget it.lol

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

haha. SHORT TERM MEM LOSS. jk jk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@chaise-thats cool that you love the subject, grr , i hate math !

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

it's so easy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@saifoo- ahah, HEY ! NO TEASEING . mean-o ):

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

haha^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its easy for you guys because i dont get the help i need, good thing i found this website...lol
